Southern California Wildfire Relief Efforts
Fires ravaging Southern California have imperiled hundreds of thousands of residents, requiring an immense disaster response, recovery, and rebuilding effort.
As of this morning, close to 600,000 residents throughout San Diego county have been evacuated from their homes and only 50,000 have been allowed to go home. An estimated 1,200 to 1,500 of homes have been destroyed and 300,000 acres have burned.
Needed now are food, shelter, clothing, social services, health care, and other forms of assistance to people affected by the fire. Help for animals and lands affected by the blazes will also be necessary. Here are two ways to help:
The San Diego Foundation has established the After-the-Fires Fund to support first-response efforts as well as ongoing recovery and rebuilding.
The Red Cross is providing immediate disaster assistance.
Southeastern Minnesota Flood Relief & Recovery
The floods that ravaged much of Southeastern Minnesota left people homeless, jobless, without child care, and otherwise in need of significant and urgent support.
Agencies in Southeastern Minnesota are identifying needs and soliciting support in the wake of the floods.
The United Way of Olmsted County has established a Flood Recovery Fund. To help by contributing financial support or volunteer services, please visit their website.
